On September 11th, 2001, I was working as a freelance photojournalist in New York City, primarily for the New York Daily News. I was asleep in my Brooklyn apartment when the first tower was struck. After my editor informed me that the bridges and tunnels had been closed, I made my way to the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights, which offers a sweeping view of Lower Manhattan. It was from there that I watched the towers fall. The photographs below range from the Promenade to the streets and rubble of Lower Manhattan, documenting the skyline, the rescue workers, and the small, haunting details of the day
